February 21, 2005They don't salt the roads here in Arizona nor do they in California, so i don't worry about getting the salt off my truck. I do wash it once a week. just to keep the grime off. the longer it sits on your ride, the harder it will be to get it off.
I picked up a pressure washer for $180 bucks the other day and it blasts the grime off with ease. Home Depot had a 1400 PSI washer for 60 bucks. Mine is a little more advanced, cause it has a heater as well also it can be turned up to 2500 PSI (its nice for blasting off mud and cleaning tires, not recomended for direct use on paint)
February 21, 2005I do because it drives me nuts when it is dirty all the time in the winter,I know that it ruins your carpets if you don't keep them clean ,I don't know if it is good or bad for the paint ,but next year I think I am going to use a sealer over the paint that someone told me about to protect the paint
February 22, 2005what kind of sealer are you talking about.they spread salt around here like you do on large french fries.
February 22, 2005I wash mine once a week at least, and if it is real cold I take it to a touchless car wash that does pretty good
February 23, 2005Hey M.W.
Calgary is bad enough with the salt; but add to that the humidity of the great lakes that you have to deal with, ouch!. Ive been told that humidity/moisture will actually enhance the salt's effectiveness. Touch it with wet skin, it feels like its burning. By all means wash it alot. The least you can do is no soap but rinse with a pressure washer, why let it sit on your paint - dry or wet.
February 23, 2005I washing my truck every time after running in the snow, it is alot of salt chemical and dirts on the road which is nasty looking on the truck and will damage your paint and under body. I like to keep it clean, but my neightborhood always got a smart mouth to makes a comment about keep my truck clean.
February 25, 2005I too wash it weekly. I got a tip on this forum about Merguires Quick Detail and that has worked pretty well for me. Obviously, if the grime is to much you do not want to go there, but sometimes, just blasting the dirt they lay in Colorado off the wheel wells and giving it a quick detail does it until the weekend. Dang salt. :-)
