I was told that GM recommends replacing your shocks every 2 years?! That sounds kind of often but I wanted to check here if anyone agrees with that. If that doesn't sound right, how often should you replace your shocks?Mike

Whoever told you that must be in the business of selling shock absorbers.October 10, 2007
You know, my ma has a 00' sub with over 100k and we have never replaced them...Alot of highway miles, but no problems what so ever!October 12, 2007
my1st, the rule that I use with vehicles is what can be called the 3 bounce rule. What you do is push down on a corner of the truck and let go. The truck should sit still with no more than 3 bounces of the truck. If you are getting more than 3 bounces, then you need new shocks. You can do this on all 4 corners.October 15, 2007
I've got 106K on my Burb, still the original shocks. If I jump off the back bumper, it bounces exactly one time. No plans to change 'em out in the foreseeable future.October 15, 2007
I swapped the stock ones out my my '03 Z71 around 70K miles. As noted by Thermo, I was getting more than 3 bounces on the front corners. I replaced them with KYB MonoMax's -- quite a bit firmer than the stock ride which is great for cornerring but a bit harsher for badly paved city streets.October 24, 2007
I thought it sounded ridiculous to change the shocks after only 2 years but I had to ask here. I knew I could get an honest answer here. Thanks guys!October 29, 2007
Thermo, lol you mind putting that in layman's termsOctober 30, 2007
Boeski, your verbal acclaimation is far too copious for my diminitive comprehension, not knowing therefore, one can not postulate to any degree of accuracy what is generally characterized.October 10, 2011
Has anyone had any trouble with Ironman shocks fitted to their vehicle?![]() |
